Article confirms Cadillac VRX name?

An article published recently in the Mexican paper Vanguardia seems to confirm the rumored Cadillac VRX nameplate. Discussing the current state and future of GM's large production facility at Ramos Arizpe, the article mentions investment by GM in a new plant on the complex for 2010 and discusses production levels for the current Saturn VUE as well as GMX166 and GMX168 vehicles that will soon begin assembly at Ramos. Those vehicles will be based on the new Theta/Epsilon architecture and be marketed under the SAAB banner as the 9-4X (168) and under Cadillac as the VRX (166). The article confirms the VRX name as opposed to the long-rumored BRX one.

In its declaration, the state Agent chief executive assured that it is a project which it would surpass to the investments of Freightliner, Modelo and Technocast, that would generate 3 thousand new direct uses and around 8 thousand indirect ones, discarded is Toyota, but did not want to reveal the name; it assured that 95 percents of probabilities existed of making specific the investment. The report of the Germanic publication indicates that the new plant would be located within the same local complex, where General Motors would produce the light truck Opel Astra Sedan, a medium vehicle of which 30 thousand units per year would be assembled, "which would suppose a strong investment and that he would be next to announce by Kevin Williams, president of GM in Mexico".

Indeed Wednesday, and as it documented Vanguard to it in his edition of yesterday, Kevin Williams and Moreira governor Wednesday in Palace of Government met, encounter of which details to the public opinion were not revealed, but in which it would be possible to have been spoken of the project.

Only yesterday, three hours before the announcement of governor Moreira, the Secretary General of the CTM in Coahuila, Tereso Medina the Ramirez, it had declared to Vanguard who came "the new and good news for GM", and very textually said: "I do not have the authorized voice to do it, but I can say to them that there will be the new and good news, and that it is going them to give that them must announce".

Also they were yesterday in Arizpe Branches some of the main executives of General Motors in the United States, that made a visit of supervision by the Complex Arizpe Branches, specially by the extensions and the new facilities that have been constructed there. The Germanic magazine also describes the Project Saturn Vue 2008, of which Arizpe Branches will produce 50 thousand 400 units per year, as this means have documented it, and in addition confirms the projects "166" and "168", corresponding to Cadillac VR-X and of the SAAB 9-4 Xs, that soon will begin to assemble the local complex.

The report also assures that "Mexico is one of the most attractive countries to the investment of the automotive industry", emphasizing its geographic location and its low labor costs. Other reports of the same industry, indicate that Mexico is one of the eight emergent markets where the 60 percent of the growth of the automotive global demand between 2010 and 2020 will be concentrated almost. The other countries are: China, India, Thailand, Korea South del, Russia, Poland and Brazil.

Bad idea, it will get confused with the V-series, and drag the V-series cars down. Maybe they should not use RX, since RX is a Lexus, there is already the SRX, it will just get lost in the shuffle and people won't know what it is. VRX sounds like an 80s Japanese sports car anyways, wasn't that a Subaru already?

The Subaru is a WRX and I believe it's still made The problem Cadillac has is with the three letter approach - there's a limited number of usable combinations.

Wasn't there talk of a Caddy BRX crossover some time ago?

I ask because in the Spanish of most countries outside of Spain, VRX and BRX sound exactly the same.

I doubt the name too... I haven't been able to find anything else of the sort about any VRX, hyphen or none.

Better than BULLSHIT

But I agree.... the V should be only for V-series.,

Alphanumerics sucks plain & simple.

OK, let's go insane here for a moment: why not can the Escalade and offer a real high-end crossover that can stand beside the NG STS/DTS? Think of it as having a single successor to the SRX and Escalade on a heavily modified NG STS/DTS platform.

Ahh, you're getting cooler, not warmer. The new names are simple, logical, make it abundantly clear what the targets are, and maintain a direct link to the current generation (of those models that survive under the new names).

A328, C536, C536di, C536xdi, C570v, S736, S746, S744v

doesn't quite have the same ring.

3TS, 5TS, 7TS?

Seriously, ATS/CTS/STS would work just fine: it's just like Mercedes having a C-Class, E-Class and S-Class. BTS would make sense for an Alpha car if a one-letter-leap logic would apply: BTS/CTS/DTS. This branding/naming thing is interesting!

Like with last week's Top Gear, on the Lamborghini Reventon: "No, it's Re-BEN-ton."

Followed by a few seconds later...

"This car will get you some serious badge."

Auto people should refrain from trying to speak Spanish.
