MDM, I have no 'guts' yet to post anything, perhaps someday soon.

I'd buy an UP! based rear engine 3 cyl. turbo, lite and fast, coupe from VW for 16k in a second. So far my concepts are either leaning towards a Porsche look , with both 3 box coupe and fastbacks. In all case I emphasize the rear engine.

Here are some details I had determined....

Design Brief-

-Rear engine, 3 cyl. and turbo option

-Light and quick coupe

-Low cost

-Somewhat remake of the Karmann Ghia

Specifications-

VW UP! rear engine concept (2007) based.

3 cyl. and turbo option; lightweight chassis;

$16k price;

Styling to emphasize rear engin via intakes and air diffusers.

May use side mounted radiator which requires side intakes.

OK...but how did you detrmine ALL of that without sketching or drawing SOMETHING out...? Don't feel intimidated or whatever just post some of the ideas in Visual form as you may get some ideas that make it come together for you from the comments...it all cool.

I always put down in writing my overall intent/design direction and engineering brief, usually before I start sketching, or soon after. Its the engineer side in me I guess (and my current job). I love doing all the details end to end as to market segment and why, looking at if a business case would exist, costs, engines and layout, even to how to market the thing.

Of course this changes as design details get flushed out as I draw. For example, my 2010 "Ford Futura" project (RWD V6/V8) changed to take advantage more of the 4 dr. coupe fastback trend, as I drew.

I have been drawing cars since 5, and now near 48, just got back into it after being away for nearly 10 years. I now a super stressfull job and this activity helps!

I use a web blog format online to track my projects (each 'blog entry' is a project), and then post my drawing there for family and friends, and someday will get them posted elsewhere once I feel my skill has improved to a point to make it worthy.

Got to say, this is a blast of a 'hobby' that is relatively low cost and huge return on being able to create your own visions.

Draw on everyone! :thumbsup:

Next steps in my backwards sequence from digital render to pencil drawing, when I get to the finish I will go back & match up the details in each picture to match each other, so far I got this :;

OMG

MDM, you totally nailed it. A bit of retro, but new too. I want one. -ketch

(trying myself to get to that level of talent for rendering, nice work!)
