The current Freelander is such an unmitigated flop anything would be an improvement.

True, mainly because the design has been around since like 1997 in Europe and wasn't brought here until a couple years ago.

Sat in and looked at a few in various auto shows and equated the build quality and materials to that of a Cavalier/Sunfire--cheap, hard, rough edges, looks OLD, and just feels moderately more solid. Plus, read through some real owner reviews and you'll see how much "old LR" they really are--electrical failures, broken parts, etc.

The new one should be great, however, if the Range Rover of late, the LR3, and the Range Rover Sport are any indication (though it doesn't look like it will have the same caliber of looks as its bigger brothers)

I really can't tell the difference from the current one. Until we see it without the covering on it. I like Land Rover as a brand, but the current Freelander is just too cheap both inside and out to be taken seriously.
