Project Shadow Updates

So today we finally got the other door on. We also put the horn back on it and painted the rockers. Not professional, but still a big improvement and a cheap and quick way to make it look decent until the real work is done.

Had it inspected after we did the work. Somehow it passed emissions, but more importantly it passed safety without a problem. Good times. :thumbsup:

Dude, you gotta roll through L-city "Tight Whips" style with

the '88 Sundance script ON the door, seriously, you should

clear coat over it... There's something awesome about

driving a car that looks like it's only good for packing the

trunk full of explosives and putting a brick on the gas pedal

after you point it at the EPA building!

Not to beat a dead horse, but all joking aside, pay someone

to weld up that structural rot. That cars' frame is going to

break in half like one of those collapsed bridges.

Dude, you gotta roll through L-city "Tight Whips" style with

the '88 Sundance script ON the door, seriously, you should

clear coat over it... There's something awesome about

driving a car that looks like it's only good for packing the

trunk full of explosives and putting a brick on the gas pedal

after you point it at the EPA building!

Haha that is kind of a fun idea, although I know he plans to have the car repainted. I'll just take lots of photos before that happens...maybe show up at NAPA with it. :P

That being said it's only going to get funnier when we put a blue passenger fender on it, blue hatch and black spoiler. :lol:

As for the rockers, yep it's on the to-do list.

I just bought a Daytona for my kid, I *thought* it was in good shape, but swapping the carpet let me see some road beneath, I had to do some unexpected rust repairs on the floor!

What is the drivetrain in the Shadow? What are your plans for it, any set plans, or...?

I just bought a Daytona for my kid, I *thought* it was in good shape, but swapping the carpet let me see some road beneath, I had to do some unexpected rust repairs on the floor!

It's got a 2.5L / 3-speed automatic. It would be cool to fit a turbo to it (they had turbo 2.5's), although I'm not really familiar with doing such a thing.

There's a Sundance in the junkyard, same one the doors came from, that's a 2.2 turbo...wonder if the Turbo is any good? :scratchchin:

I know from reading allpar that adding a strut tower is an inexpensive way to improve handling, I think the ones they make for the 240ZX or something fit right on with a few new mounting holes drilled in. It's up to him though.

The main plans are to get the body ready and then painted.

You do realise that the EPA has a big HQ in

Drum Hill, right? It's litterally across from the

parking lot where I used to do my massive

smokeshows and burnout contests between

SP & his buddies & me in my '68 'Maro.

he'll be the only one shaking back and forth mumbling "teh pillars! teh pillars!"

I suspect in a year or so we will see it on CNN---Massachusetts man on rampage vandalizing Chevy dealers throughout New England--breaks into dealers and with a Sawzall or Jaws of Life tool cuts out the B-pillars of the 2010 Camaros in stock, as an act of his 'Hardtop Liberation Front'.. :)

The 2.5 N/A engines weren't bad..?

I used to buy wrecked Shelbys for donor cars, suspensions, wheels, body and interior parts... they actually have lots of good stuff on 200-300 cars..

Some of those cars were called "Dusters" weren't they?

Yeah, I've heard a great way to upgrade a Shadow is to get a wrecked Shebly Datona or even better a Shebly Shadow, since with teh Shadows you can do some nice upgrades of the suspension on the cheap.

The 2.5 N/As aren't bad though, they make pretty good torch for the era/weight of the car.

There was a "Duster" version of the Sundance, it was what V6 models were badged.

Yesterday the mechanic was supposed to have gotten done with the car, we wanted him to do some work for us, but after sitting for 3 days nothing was done, he swore he'd do it Monday, it was next it line. :angry:

I know he's busy and he is good too us, but 3 days, grr...

Whatever though, we took the day to do some work to the car. After who knows how many years of the lifter struts to the hatch being worn out and so the hatch wouldn't stay up, we bought a set of new ones and put them in. We also replaced the nasty hood liner which was coming apart with one we got from the junkyard...not perfect but 100% better than what was there. We also changed some bulbs and put brand new Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs in it, a full take of premium and some Marvel's Mystery Oil in the tank. The car's never had it so good!

The plugs make a BIG difference, the car starts much better (first crank instead of 3-4 cranks) and runs more smoothly).

Hhhahahah... yeah, I sold the LT1 powered Estate last summer, this black

behemoth is a tbi-350 powered steel-roof sedan, it was purchased in Jan.

of 2008 for $200. I pulled it out of a snowbank with the 240D and threw a

battery in it (the duralast gold out of the datsun) and now, 11,000 miles

later my total investment in the car after purchase price & repairs is $450.

[not incl. oil changes & gasolina]

when, as WMJ pointed out, the old one is

recycled for $100 while you're charged $120+

for a new one just to make Al Gore happy in

some empty belief that you're helping to save

spotted owls or something about Polar Bears

can't swim and Alaska is the size of Ohio...

take it to a recycling center.

With all due respect, not attacking you DF, just

frustrated with the whole absurdity of broke

people havnig to spend mega $ on something

that doesn't effect drivability or safety on a car

that is older than the driver.

After 5 or 10 years Cars should not be held

hostage to the emissions standards they were

designed to operate at when new. It's dumb.

In fact it's economic descrimination.
