the magnum doesn't have enough rear storage or maybe a third row rear facing seat. it is a sport hatch at best, looking more fastback than wagon.

What he said. Even the old Taurus was a more suitable wagon than the Magnum. Magnum is a fine sportwagon or sporthatch, but not a true station wagon. Never said it was a bad thing, just that it isn't.

old wagons were wide two rows and maybe seats in the trunk facing rear or on the wheelwells facing eachother, thats all they were

Scroll to 'cargo volume' and you'll see the Taurus holds about 10 cuft more than a Magnum. In fact, a Magnum holds little more than a compact Lancer Sportback, which is admittedly designed more than a wagon.

Just look at the design of the Magnum, too. Its roofline slopes at a more severe angle than just about any other real wagon. Because of its emphasis on design over utility, I would classify it as a sport wagon along with the like of a Lexus IS300 Sportcross.
