Buick Lucerne MCE

12 posts in this topic

I've always liked the overall look of the Lucerne with the major exception of the front end. It looks bland and dated, even when it debuted I never liked it. The new LaCrosse, on other hand has one of the best front end designs since `59 IMO. So I figured I'd do a quick chop to see what it looked like. Here are the results:

Again it's a quicky, so I could certainly refine it more, but I just wanted to get an overall feel of what it would look like.

It may be too aggressive for the kind of buyers that the Lucerne has been drawing, but I'm not sure if that's a bad thing, necessarily. Looks good to me.

At least the chop doesn't look like a '01 Mercury Sable.

Soften up some of the sharp points and it would work well with the rounder rest of the car. Nice idea!

I'd agree with CHUD here. Nice job!

love the chop, but does it still have the 3.9 under the hood?

No...3.6 DI with 6 forward gears. :P

Since the Lucerne has no planned replacement anymore, I wouldn't mind seeing a MCE like this. Definitely tweak the interior.

I think the basic Buick grill looks best not when it's oval-shaped (as on the old LaCrosse); or when it's cut flat at the top (as on the Chinese Regal), but when it's got a more grandiose, more gradual slope on the top (like on the Invicta Concept, or perhaps the Riviera Concept - as long as it doesn't get too cartoony, like a smile).
