U.S. NOT to Get Polo Debuted in Geneva

Well, sorry guys. Looks like we aren't going to get the real Polo afterall, but an enlarged, fattened "American Market" sort of car instead.

No Euro Polo for U.S.

Personally IMO WHO CARES! I know some would love the polo, but then this site is about GM and if GM does not see a need for a car like this then we do not need it, Right????? ;)

Well apparently a lot of members care, and I care because I like choice, and because the Aveo is a piece of $h!.

Polo would have made a nice entry level model, but apparently VW is focusing on more "American market" vehicles, which means cheapened. what's interesting is Ford [and most everyone else] is going the opposite way, focusing in more expensive and efficient vehicles, yet covering more segments. fiesta will cover the current focus, ng focus will retain focus buyers as well as pull in from import corolla/civic/camcord buyers. vw is irrelevant [in america] an age of depressed volumes [though i love them] and opressed buyers. they aren't really needed here unless volumes rebound to the 14-15k arena [i believe they will].

the only time americans buy small cars and make profit for the manufacturer is when gas is down. otherwise, people equate small to cheap. VW now apparently is doing what everyone blames US manuf of doing, cheapening the small cars for the US market. Can you blame them? Remember, VW wants to be the world volume leader.

What i don't get. Why don't they just offer a Rabbit / Jetta with a decent aluminum 2.0 four cylinder here. that gets good mpg. the rabbit is already fairly cheap. VW seems to want to put the polo on kia's level.

basically, VW is saying their nice new polo is too spendy to make for the US market. Heard that before?

It's because Americans are perceived as fat, lazy bastards who feel compelled to buy the biggest car or truck they can to give them a sense of security.

As a female American acquaintance of mine once told me, Americans buy cars and trucks that are 'penis extenders', which sort of fits your security/insecurity comment.

Yeah, we briefly touched on this in my Polo thread. The Euro Polo is perfect, I'm sure it is about the size of a Mk I Rabbit... big enough to be plenty useful with the hatchback. This is dismal news.

Next time you drive on the interstate, count how many full-sized trucks and SUVs you see.

Next time you pass McDonalds, take note of how many billions of people were served and how many cars you see in the parking lot.

Next time you pass a construction site, count the number of immigrants versus the number of all-American white boys working.

Stereotypes may be offense, but they are usually rooted in some amount of truth.

Well, unfortunately GM hasn't seen a need for a lot of things; ever.

I feel that the Polo of Europe would be the perfect size for the U.S., but perhaps an additional reason they see fit to offer the U.S. a bigger, cheaper, no more reliable Polo is because they know it can't actually compete with the Fiesta regardless, Chrysler has nothing like this available, and the Aveo sucks.

Thinking about the Euro Polo and the plan for an enlarged one for the US reminds me of Top Gear with The Stig and his American cousin, Big Stig... :)

The Polo looks like a pretty sweet hatch, but I think I'll like the Fiesta design more.

Please, that same mentality about cars is found around most of the globe. There are just different definitions of what is cool or lame to tell people what to buy to have a proper "penis extension". That selfish, self-promoting, self-serving attitude is a human trait, not an american-only one.
