Ford Announces IRS Equipped Mustang

DEARBORN, Mich., April 1, 2009 – Ford Motor Company today announced that it will be unveiling yet another special addition Mustang at the 2009 New York Auto Show.

This will be a huge departure for the Mustang, which has spent most of its life equipped with a live rear axle. Insiders who have driven the new car say “the ride and handling is unlike anything you’ve ever seen from a Mustang.

Codenamed GT500 IRS, it will slot above the current range-topping GT500 KR, and is likely to cost well north of the six figure mark.

“The reason behind the high price is because of the IRS and extensive development and tuning we’ve had to do….since we aren’t used to this sort of thing in a Mustang. As you know, we’ve get the Mustang’s price down with the help of the cheaper live axle design. By adding the IRS, the car has become more expensive.” An engineer at Ford explained.

When asked if people would go for such a high price for a Mustang, especially since the Corvette ZR1 can be had for that kind of money, he explained,

“Look, the Mustang buyer is a special breed of buyer. The GT500 KR is priced at $79,995. Most normal people would think that’s insane for a Mustang with a live axle and a cheap interior. However the Mustang buyer with money to burn will pay nearly anything for the latest special addition Mustang.”

When asked if the IRS would find its way into more affordable versions of the Mustang, we were told not to hold our breath.
