Ford to cut 4,000 salaried jobs

Recommended Posts

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co. (F.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Friday it will eliminate 4,000 salaried jobs, or 10 percent of its North American white-collar workforce, in the first quarter of 2006.

The cuts were announced to employees in an e-mail sent out by Ford's new Americas president Mark Fields, said Ford spokesman Oscar Suris.

These cuts, which are part of a larger turnaround plan, are in addition to the 2,750 already announced by the automaker this year.

The cuts will come through attrition, layoffs and the elimination of some agency and contract positions, Suris said. The automaker currently has about 40,000 salaried positions across North America.
