NINETY EIGHT REGENCY

GM: Lutz Stays, Wagoner Goes (Finally)

18 posts in this topic

Whether the “new” General Motors, due to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy tomorrow, makes cars people want to buy is hard to predict. The economic crisis plus a fast-changing global auto industry add up to major uncertainty. That said, the announcement that Robert A. “Bob” Lutz will stay with GM, foregoing retirement, is a smart public relations move and might even have a substantive impact on the new company.

I'd be happy were they to maintain the integrity of everything which works now and build on that.

Even as I was employed by GM I would be frustrated (later it devolved into numbness) in seeing opportunities, as I perceived them, being squandered.

We'll see.

Nice to see you 98. Thanks for posting this interesting article.

+1.

I would love Lutz to finish off the Volt in style, and I hope he pushes Alpha Caddy out of the door into reality too.

Lutz staying and a GM coming out our Chapter 11 for a fresh start with a lot of new product in the pipeline. This is good news.

I think with Lutz enabling the people on hand to do their work this will make GMs comeback go much smoother.

I hope knowing Lutz will not stay forever he can put in place the people who will continue his plans and build on them as he would have.

Bobs best ideas at GM were to let the engineers do what they could do and not limit them. He did the same with the styling department. And finally he upgraded interiors and quality to levels GM has not seen in decades.

GM will always have to have a Henderson taking the top job but product calls are best left to guys who like and know cars.
