AutoLine: ROAD TEST: Nissan Cube Krom

9 posts in this topic

Runtime 4:11

Let’s take a look at the Krom edition of Nissan’s quirky answer to Scion–the Cube. The styling is odd, but goes just far enough to work, however it does present some annoying drawbacks. On the road the powertrain leaves a bit to be desired, but the rewarding fuel economy may just be worth it.

Barftastic styling and totally useless interior and trunk! You just know Nissan's going to make a mint with this thing. <_<

Just because it's goofy doesn't mean its good design. Look at what John pointed out about the cheap black plastic insert and how the front windows inside don't match the oval shape on the outside. I still don't get the asymmetric rear window...the only purpose for it to be like that was if it was mostly wrap-around glass, but instead there's a couple thick ugly pillars hidden back that block most of the view.

For a short while when it first came out I kind of liked it, but now I don't like it at all, actually.

Of the boxes on wheels, my favorite is the Kia Soul.

As for the asymmetrical rear of the Cube, the passenger side, with the wraparound glass, has a window in the C-pillar that the driver's side does not have. It's logical in the sense that extra window will decrease the size of the blind spot on the far side of the car, and the missing window is inconsequential on the driver's side.

Someone let me know if I forget a US market box on wheels, but my styling preference goes:

1st gen Scion xB > Kia Soul > Nissan Cube > 2nd gen Scion xB

But really my styling preference goes toward cars that actually look good.
