Corvette SuperSport

I have seen similar stuff like this out of GM Engineering before when planning for a new program. If it is not real it looks much like some of the things I have seen before that were. I do like the part where it said the Devil is in the details. Time will tell if this is accurate stuff. One thing for sure 505 HP in the Z06 is only a start and we will see more soon. Caddy needs to clear 500 HP and they either have to move the Vette up or lett the Caddy pass it. I expect the Vette will get what it needs. What I want to know is what improvments will be added to the rest of the car and how much lighter will it get? I know they want to hit 2800 someday if they can and with carbon fiber they might just get there.

I think Blue Devil & ZR1 are more realistic for a Corvette Hi.Perf. model than SS.

Sorry, to wreck the party but not enough power!  A 750 HP viper is on the way sooner..(allpar)

It takes more than horsepower to make a super car.

I could put a 700 horsepower smallblock in my '84 Datsun but it would not make it a McLaren F1.

I meant that a 750HP viper would dust the vette. We need more power!

Whilst I love a good Dodge vs GM constest, here's one Viper that seems to be losing: http://www.smashmyviper.com

hush hush? this has been is all over the place for over a week. I can hardly wait for it, but I wish they'd come up with a better name than SS. Keep the Blue Devil tagor something else cool. While it may be a Chevy, they shouldn't want too many ties IMO. Haaving a Zed model is enough of a tie, an SS on top of that would be too much Edited by Dragon

True, but it WOULD make you a dolt!

[post="61399"]<{POST_SNAPBACK}>[/post]

well then might as wel call me a dolt. that's the Datsun's destiny as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to keep it looking 100% stock with those silly 14" 1980s rims and scuffed up bumpers.

Going to the dragway with it is already fun... lighting up those rear tires and powershifting that little 5-speed, but imagine trippeling the horsepower (if I install my Camaro's 350) and yet only going up about 300lbs in weight.

can you say S L E E P E R ? :metal:

C&D did a Viper coupe vs Z06 comparo, they said the Viper handles better around the track. I have no reason to not believe them.

I believe the numbers until I have a reason to not believe the numbers. The Z06 was faster off the line, the Viper had better lap times. That ells me that the Viper has to have an advantage somewhere, most likely in handling. I'm not saying the Z06 sucks, or that the Viper is better (given the money I'd take the 'Vette) just that there is nothing to say the Viper "handles like a pig."

Was it C&D that tested it on some track that had a few little bumps and the Z06 got unsettled because of it, and therefore they were scared to push it any harder? I'd be hard pressed to believe the Vette would lose on many race tracks to the Viper considering that the C5 Z06 beat the current Viper around some tracks (in one R&T comparo the C5 Z06 was faster around the track). Granted, it was the convertible Viper, but I don't think that would make a ton of difference, especially considering the Z06 now has 100 more HP.

I came across this today and found it rather interesting...

The Z06 is defined by its engine, which offers explosive midrange power and torque and a vigorous top-end rush. This great engine makes the Z06 feel quicker than the Viper, which it is, but it also makes it feel twitchier. Tip into the Z06's throttle too briskly in lower gears and its back end snaps loose quicker than you can say, "Watch out for that tree!" The Z06 has high cornering limits, but those limits are tricky to explore because the car's firm suspension and steering feel strangely elastic, making it difficult to read the messages the tires are sending.

By contrast, Dodge's Viper SRT10 - whose motor also commands serious respect and self-restraint - responds more linearly to driver inputs, and is a more communicative handler. Like the Corvette, the Viper is capable of throttle-induced wheelspin, but its breakaway is gradual and easily modulated - not the abrupt, all-or-nothing snap of the Z06. And the Viper's well-damped steering is delightfully direct, providing unambiguous, two-way communications between the driver and the front tires. The Viper doesn't suffer fools gladly, but its no-surprises honesty and no-vices handling allow careful drivers to probe its performance envelope without getting snakebitten.
