Ford, GM each place 2 finalists for N.A. Car/Truck of the year

UPDATED: 12/16/09 1:19 P.M. ET

Two Ford Motor Co. vehicles and two from General Motors Co. are on the short list of finalists for the 2010 North American Car and Truck of the Year awards.

The cars finalists are the Ford Fusion Hybrid, Buick LaCrosse and Volkswagen Golf.

The Ford Transit Connect, Chevrolet Equinox and Subaru Outback round out the six vehicles to make it through the latest round of voting by 49 automotive journalists in the United States and Canada.

The winners will be announced Jan. 11 at the Detroit auto show.

Last year, the Hyundai Genesis won car of the year, and the Ford F-150 pickup was honored as the top truck.

Equinox will probably win Truck of the Year but riding high on the MT win I think I give the Fusion the edge to win the car award. That being said I'd rather see the LaX win.

Fusion hybrid and the Equinox or Transit Connect. Politics says GM and Ford must each win one so its Fusion Hybrid and Equinox.

Fusion hybrid is a slam dunk. Equinox is likely for truck, but Subaru tends to get a lot of good press and people like them for some reason. The Transit is a unique vehicle, that is its only chance to win. There are a dozen crossovers like the Equinox and Forester, but no other vans like the Transit.

Can't see a pure commercial vehicle like the Transit having a snowball's chance in hell of winning.

Unless maybe if it was Commercial Trend magazine.

Except that this isn't for the MT award, this is the award connected to NAIAS.

I could see Ford taking both, but think a split with GM more likely.

FH and 'Nox seem to be the most logical choices in my mind too.
