and Lincoln's crossover offerings are plentiful, but all attention is being paid nowadays to the boxy-yet-practical Flex and hit-by-the-ugly-stick MKT. What about the Edge and MKX? This duo was launched years before the automaker's polarizing pair of three-row CUVs arrived.

Well, their due for redesigns. Or at least, according to these spy shots, refreshenings of their front and rear ends. In the Edge's case, that means making the already handsome people mover look a bit more windswept, though it appears things will stay largely the same between the A- and D-pillars.

The changes look more substantial for the MKX, which launched before Lincoln debuted its increasingly ubiquitous doubled-winged grille design. That punum looks pretty okay on the MKS sedan and like a baleen whale on the oversized MKT. It looks just right on the MKX to us.

Ford and Lincoln may have other news about the Edge and MKX for us - powertrain and infotainment upgrades most likely - at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show in early January, which is when we expect to see these new looks formally trotted out on stage.

The Lincoln is a huge improvement. I thought the current MKX was one of the ugliest car designs of the decade.

I like them both, and look, the Edge has the little lit slashes in the bumper like the US Fiesta.

Wow. I wouldn't call the MKT "hit by an ugly stick". Really not a fan of this writer. He's trying way too hard to be funny.

I like the Continental-nose on the current MKX better than the new nose that is getting grafted on everything. Reminds me of Lincoln instead of "everything else."

I wonder why they bothered w/ the leopard print paint, since the bodies appears unchanged...just draws attention to it.

I realized a couple of weeks ago at the Phoenix auto show that the MKT looks much better in person than in pics.

And English sucks.

Well, their due for redesigns.

Both the models are due for a redesign.

Agreed. The old MKX grill was at least unique... very intricate, too. This new face is more generic... but probably more universally appealing.

new Edge front is too soft! that is a weak design!

these vehicles are getting the four cylinder ecoboost.

Makes me wonder what the ecoboost FWD powertrain combo will see, mpg wise. a dealer discounted edge can compete closely with a lightly priced equinox on price.

these fine driving pigs need to see some weight reduction. to me that is the biggest priority on these along with new interiors that aren't fisher price.
