GM’s Reuss will make one-day NADA visit, after all

DETROIT -- General Motors Co.’s North American president will make at one-day appearance at next month’s National Automobile Dealers Association convention, reversing GM’s plans to have Mark Reuss skip the Orlando, Fla., event.

Reuss will come to the convention Feb. 13, although GM hasn’t completed details for his schedule that day, GM spokeswoman Ryndee Carney said today.

GM canceled its plans for exhibit space or attending make meetings at the convention after NADA lobbied for legislation that mandated arbitration for rejected GM dealers, sources told Automotive News. The automaker said it was not participating because of limited resources.

The automaker had said that a few executives, but not Reuss or Chairman Ed Whitacre, would attend select events.

GM had planned to participate in NADA’s Feb. 13 industry relations luncheon by sending Susan Docherty, GM’s sales and marketing chief; Jim Bunnell, general manager of U.S. sales, service and marketing; and Eric Peterson, director of sales operations.

GM hasn’t decided whether Reuss will attend the luncheon, and Whitacre still has no plans to go to Orlando, Carney said today.

In addition, GM has said that Docherty will speak at the woman dealers’ breakfast Feb. 13 and that she and Bunnell will field dealers’ questions at an off-site, invitation-only GM luncheon Feb. 14.
