Henderson, Forster head gossip derby for Jaguar job

Ex-General Motors Europe boss Carl-Peter Forster is a leading candidate to take over the top job at Jaguar and Land Rover, according to press reports in Germany and the United Kingdom. But Forster isn't the only big name being bandied about.

When David Smith stepped down last week as CEO of Jaguar and Land Rover, it led to published gossip that former GM chief Fritz Henderson, 51, might run the little luxury brands in the British Midlands. Both are now owned by India's Tata Motors.

Analysts in Europe lean toward Forster, 55, who has been linked to the Jaguar-Land Rover job since he left GM Europe in November. Forster left after publicly disagreeing with the way GM, then led by Henderson, handled the aborted effort to sell Opel and Vauxhall to Magna International.
