Chevrolet confirms European debut for Camaro in 2011

02/15/2010, 9:31 AMBY ANDREW GANZ

Before the production Chevrolet Camaro was even shown to the public, General Motors strongly hinted that it planned to officially take the muscle car global, although there was little official word. Today, GM confirmed that the Camaro will arrive in Europe during the 2011 calendar year, ostensibly as a 2012 model.

The automaker will show a production Camaro at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, even though sales are about a year off. It won’t be the first outing for a Camaro in Europe, however; the automaker toured around its Camaro coupe and convertible show cars prior to the unveiling of the production model.

GM says that both coupe and convertible Camaros will be introduced for the European market, although production of the convertible isn’t slated to begin until the first quarter of 2011 at GM’s Oshawa, Ontario, assembly plant.

I hope the tail lights look good, almost always an issue when adapting American cars to Euro regulations... Having two giant oranges stuck inside the outboard tail light positions (like those on the mules/prototypes seen in Australia) would look very uncool to my eyes...
