GM continues leadership changes, names new GM Canada president

03/05/2010, 1:25 PMBY MARK KLEIS

Following this weeks’ substantial adjustment of personnel and personnel structure for North America, GM has now named Kevin Williams as the new president of General Motors Canada. The former president, Arturo Elias, moves to GM’s public policy center.

GM recently restructured the chain of command for its North American management, sales and marketing teams, and now the winds of change have blown into the cold north as GM Canada sees a change of its president.

GM’s newly appointed North America president, Mark Reuss, said in a statement, “It’s become extremely clear to me since taking this role that there is a better way to structure this organization.”

Reuss was speaking in regards to the actual structure in which the personnel operated, which Reuss felt was inefficient and lost its focus. As part of the changes, GM split roles of sales and marketing into two separate operations that now both report to Reuss. Previously, Susan Docherty headed a single division for sales and marketing efforts, and now Docherty will be handling just the marketing aspect of the business.

In Canada, Kevin Williams who was former head of GM’s parts and service operations will take the helm as GM Canada president. Following the barrage of personnel and structure changes, Williams will now report directly to Reuss.
