I have been watching Holden commercials all weekend. I thought you would appreciate this.

Pay attention to the GM dealership in the commercial. What cars are the selling?

There's a bit more to it than that. The Oldsmobile sign was most likely placed there as a less than subtle hint.

At the time, Oldsmobile was not an official import (Canadian built RHD Chevrolet Impala or BelAir and Pontiac Laurentian or Parisienne models were officially imported) although some dealers would import other individual models from the GM catalog for special customers.

The 1965 HD model is nicknamed the "Hasty Design". The 1965 Holden was originally going to be the model EF, and looked a lot like a then current Vauxhall Cresta. It was at the final approval stage before production when the GMNA brass saw the design that the Australian team had come up with. They decided that it was too ugly and outdated (looked older than the EH model it was supposed to replace) and canceled the entire EF model project. The solution GMNA came up with to create a replacement model in a hurry was to bring in a design team from Oldsmobile. The Oldsmobile team designed the HD based on then current Oldsmobile styling.
