Ford names new president of ASEAN region

Bryce G. Hoffman / The Detroit News

Ford Motor Co. today named Peter Fleet as the new president of its ASEAN region, which includes most of Southeast Asia.

Effective April 1, he will replace Dave Alden, who is retiring after 32 years with the Dearborn-based automaker. Fleet will report to the new head of Ford Asia Pacific and Africa, Joe Hinrichs, and will be based in Bangkok.

"Peter's proven leadership will be critical to driving the successful and ongoing expansion of our ASEAN operations," Hinrichs said. "His wealth of experience in marketing and sales will be invaluable in helping deliver a high impact upcoming ASEAN launch of Ford Fiesta."

Fleet, 42, is currently the regional director of European sales operations for Ford of Europe, a role he has held since 2007. He came to Ford in 1989 as a graduate trainee in Ford of Britain.

Alden, who joined Ford in 1978, has held his current post for more than two years.

"Dave's contributions to our business in the Asia region have been significant, specifically his leadership of the ASEAN region and guiding its return to profitability in 2009," Hinrichs said. "His strategic direction over the past few years has better positioned our ASEAN operations for continued future success."
