Report: Audi RS5 heading to U.S. shores

04/01/2010, 11:43 AMBY MARK KLEIS

A new report suggests that Audi is leaning towards bringing the well-received RS5 coupe to the U.S., going against former plans to keep the performance coupe in Europe. The RS5 would become the first RS-car to make it stateside since the RS4 Cabriolet saw its U.S. demise in 2008.

According to a report from Automobile, inside sources have suggested that the German luxury and performance automaker is rethinking its plans of keeping the RS5 in Europe – instead considering a U.S. debut in the near future.

The RS5 debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, and as Leftlane witnessed in person, the hotly styled coupe drew quite a crowd of onlookers with its sleek lines. The RS5 is powered by a massive 450 horsepower, 317 lb-ft of torque 4.2-liter V8, matched with a new Audi quattro all-wheel drive system that deployed a crown-gear differential.

Should the RS5 make it to the U.S., Automobile’s sources suggest it would make it to showrooms near you by the summer of 2011.
