Mazda to offer iPhone roadside assistance app

04/07/2010, 8:41 AMBY ANDREW GANZ

Mazda has launched a new application for the Apple iPhone that will allow owners to contact and track the automaker’s roadside assistance directly from their mobile phone.

The Mazda Roadside Assistance App allows the automaker to pinpoint a stranded Mazda based on the iPhone’s built-in GPS. From there, drivers will receive up to three service alerts to keep them informed of the status of their situation.

The program will allow the Mazda owner to be alerted of the estimated time of arrival for the dispatched tow truck or service vehicle, as well as a direct contact number for the local vehicle service contractor if needed. Three-quarters of the way to the estimated time of arrival, the owner will receive a reminder notification. Finally, a third potential notification will confirm that the provider has arrived and the service has been completed or the vehicle has been towed to a dealer.

Mazda’s iPhone app became available yesterday and the automaker says it works on iPhone 3G and 3GS only.
