Chevy sales up 14 percent in Europe

The Detroit News

General Motors Co.'s Chevrolet brand said its sales in Europe rose 14 percent in the first quarter, to 107,070, outpacing the market, which grew 5 percent.

Chevrolet's March sales were up 24 percent, at 44,610 vehicles, GM said in a statement.

"March was a very promising month for Chevrolet," said Wayne Brannon, president of Chevrolet Europe. "The all-new Chevrolet Spark city car is now at our dealerships, and we are already seeing an impact on our sales figures."

During the first quarter, Chevrolet's top five markets, in terms of sales, were Russia, Italy, Spain, Germany and Britain. In Russia, it was the best-selling foreign brand, with a 7 percent share of the market.

Chevrolet accounts for almost half of GM's global sales. This year, more than half of Chevrolet's sales are expected to be outside the United States, GM said.
