GM names Buick marketing chief

General Motors Co. announced the appointment of Roger McCormack, 44, to product marketing director for the Buick brand, effective immediately.

McCormack, who was head of Cadillac U.S. marketing, will report to John Schwegman, who oversees U.S. marketing for Buick and GMC in the United States.

McCormack had been U.S. vehicle marketing director for Cadillac since November 2008 and had worked on Hummer and Saab marketing, pricing and incentives.

"Roger brings a wealth of product and marketing experience to the job, and clearly understands the luxury automotive business, having spent time at Cadillac, Hummer and Saab," said Schwegman in a statement. "His expertise will be invaluable in continuing the transformation of Buick."

McCormack replaces Craig Bierley, who became director of advertising and sales promotion for Buick GMC last month.

Having shed four brands, GM is repositioning the remaining four. Buick is being reinvented in the United States with products designed to appeal to younger buyers.

At Buick, McCormack is responsible for the brand's marketing strategy and product planning. The first big project is the launch of the 2011 Buick Regal mid-size sedan this spring.
