Saab inks deal to keep GM’s OnStar

04/19/2010, 9:35 AMBY DREW JOHNSON

Despite its departure from the General Motors family, Saab will continue to offer the Detroit automaker’s OnStar telematics system. Saab was sold to Dutch supercar maker Spyker last February.

Saab announced in a statement late last week that it will continue to offer GM’s OnStar system in the United States. The agreement will start with the 2010 model year, with all Saab models set to offer a free one-year trial.

Saab failed to reveal how long the agreement will last, but it is expected to continue for the foreseeable future.

GM has offered its OnStar system to other automakers in the past, although all such agreements have expired over the last decade. Since being formed in 1995, OnStar has been offered in Volkswagen, Isuzu, Acura, Lexus, Audi and Subaru vehicles.
