Marchionne: Integrating Chrysler with Fiat 'vital'

Bryce G. Hoffman / The Detroit News

Sergio Marchionne, CEO of Fiat SpA and Chrysler Group LLC, says the full integration of the two brands is "a vital element" of his plan for the Fiat Group, adding that Chrysler will produce a third of the products for both companies.

Marchionne said combining Fiat and Chrysler offered "significant synergies" that he predicted would boost sales at both companies over the next five years.

"Approximately two-thirds of the vehicles will be produced by Fiat, and the remainder by Chrysler," he said during a day-long strategy briefing in Italy today. "It is evident what major improvement we will make ... Our market share will increase significantly in the larger segments."

He said Fiat's upmarket Lancia brand would be the most obvious beneficiary of the alliance, explaining that it will be "fully integrated" with the Chrysler brand across Europe, with the exception of Britain.

Jeep will become a global brand, while Alfa Romeo will return to North America as a full-line brand with Chrysler-built products.
