Owners of a 2010 Subaru Outback or Legacy equipped with a CVT transmission may need to make an unscheduled visit to their Subaru dealer due to a new recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall of 29,443 Legacy and Outback models for a crack that can occur in the CVT cooler hose that could result in a fluid leak. The only vehicles affected by the recall are the ones built between July 31 and December 1, 2009.

The NHTSA website states that Subaru didn't provide any safety consequences for this recall, but we're thinking a CVT fluid leak could lead to a damaged transmission, which is a lot more expensive than a new hose and a far bigger hassle for owners. Affected vehicles can be brought to the nearest Subaru dealer to have the hose replaced free of charge. If you're not sure if your vehicle falls under the recall, call Subaru at 1-856-488-8500. Subaru recalls 2010 Outback and Legacy models over CVT defect

05/12/2010, 6:20 PM BY DREW JOHNSON

It seems as though recalls have become a daily occurrence in the auto industry, with the latest safety concern belonging to Subaru. The Japanese automaker, along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, announced on Wednesday the recall of nearly 30,000 Outback and Legacy models.

Subaru has issued the recall of 29,442 2010 Outback and Legacy models equipped with the company’s CVT gearbox. Subaru says a crack can occur in the CVT cooler hose, resulting in a leak. The recall covers vehicles produced between July 31st and December 1, 2009.

The prospect of a leaky CVT hose doesn’t sound good, but Subaru failed to reveal the exact consequence of such an event.

Subaru has yet to release a schedule for the recall, but will begin informing owners and dealers of the recall soon. Subaru will remedy the problem with a new cooler hose.
