Ugly is as ugly does...

So you've lived your life thinking as many Americans that the CHevrolet Chevette and Citation are two of the most ugyl cars ever made, huh?

(not my opinion but happens ot be popular opinion these days)

Well, all you guys know that despite my dislike for 99% of Honda & Toyota products I like a few Nissan/Infiniti cars/trucks and have a weak spot ofr old 60s/70s/80s RWD Nissans that were imported here as Datsuns.

And yet look at these two horrible cars that Datsun madein the 80s. :spit:

I like my Datsun but can admit that these tow are pretty unattractive. Proportions, glass area, bumpers, greenhouse, trim... all very much out of balance.

F10 is a perfect name for it, since it even sounds like a botched abortion of a kit-car, which is exactly what it looks like.

WARNING! LOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK! MAY CAUSE VISUAL TRAUMA!

Renault Le Car - "Le" means "the" in French, right? Well, roughly translated, Le Car means The Car... Yeah, right. This was never The Car and never will be. (Although, according to ocnblu, it was a reliable car.)

'88 - '9? Pontiac Le Mans - Such a disgrace to the Le Mans name deserves a huge bitch slap and some hard words to back it up. And - Guess what, folks? - it came back as the Pontiac Wave. (Thank God it isn't in America...)

Fiat Doblo - "Doh" what? "Blow"? Yeah, it blows alright. Looks like a mutant Buick Terraza.

And it looks damn crazy off-road. Like it jumped out of a damn lagoon and it's wanting to eat a Mini Cooper.

My mom had an '82 Le Car. She loved it. It was white with tan vinyl interior and a wicker headliner (stock!) That thing was trouble free for her except for the exhaust system, and it rode sooo smooth, like a Cadillac. It leaned so far in turns, it scraped its door handles practically. She put 100k miles on it in 4 years and traded it on an '86 Camaro V6.

My dad looked at and test drove the le Car when he was looking for a tow car for the RV (a small car to tow on the back of the motorhome).... I was 10 at the time and went around with him test riding in new cars..my favorite we tested was the Datsun 200SX which I thought was neat as it was a 2dr ht (something you didn't see much of in 1980). We tested the Fiesta, Chevette, and Colt also IIRC...he ended up buying a Chevette Scooter (big mistake) and replaced it with a diesel Escort 3 years later..

Wicker headliner? Like a basket or something? Neat.

But, still, it's not adding up to much when it comes to styling.

Yeah, the Le Car was one of those cars that was very functional in style, not really ugly, though, iMHO...various small European cars of the era fit the same description---the Fiat 131, Ford Fiesta, etc..functional but not ugly... Austin had one in the '70s that was definitely more on the side of ugly..a wedgy sedan that I can't recall the name of.

Agreed, my mom's was 2 door, I don't think the four door was imported here. There was something so honest, plain, yet fun about it. And you cannot beat French cars for suspension travel, which affords a cloudlike ride.

Ocnblu:

Didn't you get the memo? The newest trend is to hate comfortable riding cars wiht cushy suspensions. Why do you think the B-body was canceled?

It's gonna be really cool when GM returns home with a RWD Impala, G8, and Invicta. :)
