Revealed: 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo

Date posted: 02-13-2006

ATLANTA, Georgia — Porsche has released the first official images of the redesigned 2007 911 Turbo, which makes its public debut in late February at the Geneva Motor Show.

The sixth-generation 911 Turbo goes on sale this summer in North America, priced at $122,900.

Porsche describes the styling changes on the '07 Turbo as "evolutionary," with a modified face and a wider tail among the most notable differences.

The car's twin-turbo 3.6-liter opposed-six engine now makes 480 horsepower, up 60 from the previous generation. Peak torque climbs from 415 to 457 pound-feet, with a broader torque curve than previously. With the optional Sport Chrono package, a new function permits a 10-second "overboost," temporarily swelling peak torque to 502 lb-ft under full throttle.

With a standard six-speed manual gearbox, the '07 Turbo sprints from zero to 60 in 3.7 seconds. Acceleration is actually quicker with the optional Tiptronic S five-speed automatic; 0-60 is achieved in only 3.4 seconds. Top speed with either gearbox is 193 mph.

The car's all-wheel-drive system has been redesigned, with the viscous clutch replaced by a new electronically controlled multidisc clutch. Brake disc diameter also has been increased, and Porsche's ceramic-composite brake system is available as an extra-cost option.

What this means to you: A legend returns in new livery, with even more muscle under the tail.

As good as it is... it's still a 911. Good for Porsche purists but not much else, IMO.

What's wrong with 911's? They are awesome cars. While they may not be that practical, they are deffinitely great performers, and the new porsches are unmatched as far as quality and reliability go. Especially with their newer, nicer, higher quality interiors I'd deffinitely say they are worth every penny you pay for them.

The coolest thing about the new 911 Turbo is that you can drive it in all weather conditions with the AWD. That's something that almost (if any) other vehicles in its class offers. That said, it costs nearly twice as much as the Z06.

Porsche's are amazing; bulletproof reliability, blistering performance, and they are perfectly balanced with communicative steering.

Awesome... I liked the last-gen. body style, though. I've I could have the old car's bodywork transplanted on top of this car's powertrain and chassis, that would be perfect.
