Key GM IT executive Gutmann leaves

DETROIT -- Kirk Gutmann, one of General Motors Co.'s top executives in information technology, is leaving the automaker June 15.

Reached by phone at his suburban Detroit home, Gutmann, 52, declined to say what prompted his departure. GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson declined to comment.

Gutmann is chief strategy and technology officer, one of GM's top three IT jobs globally. He said he spent 13 years at the company.

Among his major accomplishments was guiding the standardization of IT architecture at dozens of GM factories worldwide.

Gutmann previously worked under Ralph Szygenda, the controversial chief information officer at GM who outsourced $15 billion worth of GM IT work in 2006. Szygenda retired last year. Terry Kline currently is CIO.
