1988 Chevrolet Truck Commercials

Recommended Posts

Nobody can deny this was a HUGE step up over any other truck out there in 1988.

At the time of their introduction, I remember thinking they looked small and wimpy compared to the '87s, and the base model with single headlights looked like a Ford from the front. And the gauges were not readable, with their gray-on-gray dials. I do have to agree they had many functional improvements, however, in ride and handling they were gigantic improvements over what came before, even if off-road enthusiasts grumbled about the independent front suspension, which was hard to lift and seemingly less durable than the old straight axle front end.

Agree with the GMT400s being huge improvements. They brought a new level of refinement and civility, and yes, the gauges were terrible, as they were on all the same era GM light trucks. The Ford and Dodge pickups were completely clunky in comparison.
