General Motors To Roll Out Diesel Beat By 2011

The cute small car from GM, the Chevrolet Beat will get a Diesel heart and will be on sale from 2011. The diesel engine for the Chevy Beat will be dished out from the company's plant in Talegaon, Pune.

Chevrolet Beat will be powered by a 1.0 L diesel engine according to Ankush Arora, the General Motors India Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Services. The current petrol variant of Beat is powered by a 1.2 L engine will also be manufactured by the Talegaon plant from the end of 2010.

As with growing demands, the company has plans to fasten up the manufacturing of its Beat and Cruze models. Cruze production will be increased from 600 to 900 units while Beat production will increase from 3,300 units upto 4,000 units.

The Vice President mentioned that the Halol plant and Talegaon plant will produce cars in full swing by August September period. Talegaon plant has the capacity to produce 1,60,000 engines.

I thought the smallest GM diesel was the 1.3L used in the Corsa. Interesting!

I think the 1.0L is part of the zero engine family and I had read back in 2008/9 about its development and possibly the Beat is the first application.

The Beat goes on..... I didn't realize they were going to use the Beat name anywhere...so is the Indian Beat a variation of the Spark?

Sounds peppy....

There's a Kia 1.1L diesel that is not a bad engine at all! For such a small car, of course.

Wish they would get with it and bring out the 4.8 Diesel they already finished designing and put it in the Suburban. That is what I want!!!
