Infiniti names ex Ford exec as marketing director

Douglas A. Bolduc

Automotive News Europe -- June 9, 2010 06:01 CET

Nissan sales and marketing specialist Jean-Pierre Diernaz has been moved to the automaker's luxury brand, Infiniti, as marketing director for Europe, Russia and the Middle East.

Diernaz, 41, is credited with increasing Nissan's brand awareness in Europe since taking over as the Japanese carmaker's general manager of marketing communications in 2007.

He succeeds Bastien Schupp, who moves to Vienna to become Infiniti's country director for Austria.

“The brand has made a solid start in Europe over the past 18 months, but now with the imminent launch of our diesel range and the M line sedan arriving soon, the opportunity is there for Infiniti really to make its mark in Europe,” Diernaz said in a statement.

Infiniti debuted in Europe in 2008 and in Russia two years before that. Infiniti says the third-generation M line has been designed specifically to meet European expectations for ride, handling and engine performance. The M line cars, which will compete again the BMW 5 series and Audi A6, will offer Infiniti's new 3.0-liter V-6 diesel. The M line joins the G line, a sedan, convertible and coupe range that competes with the BMW 3 series and Audi A4, the EX37 crossover and the FX50 SUV.

Diernaz, who has already started his new job, will be based at Infiniti Europe's headquarters in Rolle, Switzerland, near Geneva. He reports to Jim Wright, vice president Infiniti AMIE (Africa, Middle East, India and Europe).

Diernaz, a French national, began his career with Ford Motor Co. in 1993 after graduating from ISG University in Paris with a degree in marketing. He joined Nissan in 2005 as head of advertising and media in Europe.
