DETROIT -- General Motors Co. has suspended output of heavy-duty pickups at a plant in Flint, Mich., to replace an unidentified part.

The plant was idled after the first production shift yesterday, and two overtime shifts were canceled today, GM spokesman Tom Wickham said. Output is scheduled to resume Monday.

GM launched the redesigned 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra heavy-duty pickups at the factory May 24.

Wickham said GM engineers decided to change the part after routine testing of the new trucks. The plant operates two shifts Monday through Thursday.

Wickham said GM also is retrofitting trucks shipped to dealers.

On July 19, the Flint plan will begin building light-duty Chevrolet Silverado regular and crew cabs.
