Over the last few years, the Dodge Charger has become a popular ride with law enforcement agencies. Not wanting to let that momentum go by the wayside, Dodge engineers are currently developing a next-generation Charger Pursuit model, seen here in these spy shots for the first time.

Referred to internally as “LD,” the 2011 Charger will be riding on a moderately updated version of the “LX” chassis, dubbed “LY”. It will be packing Dodge’s new Pentastar 3.6L V6 along with the 5.7L Hemi V8 and the monster 6.4L Hemi V8 for the SRT8 model, good for at least 450 horsepower.

At the moment, Chrysler is aiming to start production at the Brampton, Ontario plant in November of 2010. However, with things still in flux at Chrysler, don’t be surprised if that start date slips a few months.

The Charger Pursuit will have some stiff competition when it finally makes it to market, taking on Ford’s new police-spec Taurus and General Motors’ purpose-built Chevrolet Caprice PPV.
