Rumors of Porsche’s 928 revival have been circling the internet rumor mill for years now, but we may have the first evidence that such a program is underway. An image of what appears to be a Panamera coupe appeared on the Porsche Consulting Web page on Tuesday.

Although the sketch was not accompanied by any text, it’s clear that the car depicted is not one currently in Porsche’s lineup. The car in question is clearly not a 911, although it does feature some 911 styling cues.

Judging by the car’s shape, it looks to be a coupe based on the Panamera’s front engine, read drive layout. Such a vehicle has been rumored for years, and would likely wear the 928 nameplate in production guise.

Porsche engineers are said to be keen on adding a front-engine V8 GT coupe, giving the firm equal footing with automakers like Maserati and Aston Martin. It could be some time before we see if this sketch is the real deal, though, as the new-age 928 isn’t expected to join the Porsche lineup until 2013.
