GM hires new ad agency for Cadillac

General Motors Co. has made another advertising switch with today's announcement of a new agency for its Cadillac account.

Fallon will replace Bartle Bogle Hegarty, which was awarded the Cadillac contract in January after GM reviewed its creative accounts.

The change was made by GM's new U.S. marketing chief Joel Ewanick, who joined the automaker in May from a brief stint with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. after years with Hyundai Motor Co. Ltd.

Fallon also had been handling advertising for the Chrysler brand but that contract is now over as a result of the Cadillac account.

Chrysler Group LLC spokeswoman Dianna Gutierrez said she could not comment on steps to replace the agency that took over the Chrysler account in January. Under the new management of Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne, the automaker's creative accounts were resourced, which led to the closure of longtime client BBDO.

All the changes by Chrysler and GM have marked a period of unusually high turnover in automotive advertising contracts.

"Cadillac products today compete head-to-head with the best in the world. Fallon's deep, 17 year experience with other luxury automotive brands like Porsche and BMW makes them a perfect fit for our flagship brand," Ewanick said in a statement.

The Minneapolis-based Fallon is owned by Publicis Groupe, which owns 49 percent of the ousted Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

"We look forward to working with Fallon to illuminate Cadillac as the new 'Standard of the World,'" said Don Butler, vice president in charge of Cadillac Marketing

'Standard of the World"....have they actually been listening to Cadillac fans? Hopefully this is a clue that the legendary tagline will be making its way back.
