2011-wrangler-int.jpgLast week, spy photos showed us that the 2011 Wrangler's exterior looks like it will get some fresh upgrades including a body-colored roof and sleeker, more aerodynamic-looking front bumpers. Now it looks like the Wrangler's interior is getting a desperately needed boost as well. Our friends at super-fan website Allpar possess a high quality interior spy pic that shows off what appears to be a big-time upgrade from the outgoing rock-climber's Playskool-inspired innards.

The first thing that catches our eyes is what looks like an abundance of high-quality soft touch dash and door insert materials, but we won't know for sure until we can get our hands on a sample. The outgoing Wrangler's steering wheel is a real dud with no redundant controls - even on the $34,000 Rubicon model, but that appears to be changing for 2011 as well. The new piece looks to have all the modern redundant controls, and we don't see the current model's awkward cruise control stalk either, and that's a very good thing. Finally, we see plenty of polished aluminum-look trim adorning the doors, dash and vents, giving the new Wrangler a more uplevel feel.

Click on the image on the right to head over to Allpar where you can see the uncropped image. We're thinking that while the photo doesn't exactly show a beautiful interior, it sure shows a clear, functional upgrade versus the 2010 model's cabin. Thanks to everyone for the tips!

LEAKED: ‘11 JEEP WRANGLER GETS ALL-NEW INTERIOR

By Andrew Ganz

Let’s hope Jeep’s 2011 Wrangler isn’t as leaky as its Toledo, Ohio, assembly plant. After camera phone photos of the 2011 Wrangler’s new color-matching hardtop found their way online early last week, a pair of shots showing the Wrangler’s substantially revised interior have hit the web.

Chrysler enthusiast news site Allpar.com posted the photos, which reveal a substantially upgraded interior. The dashboard follows the same basic high radio, low climate control theme of the current interior (which first hit the market in the 2007 Wrangler), but the shapes and materials have been heavily revised. Chrome touches are evident throughout and we notice some switchgear has been repositioned. The door panels are also newly redone.

The Wrangler drops its Chrylser PT Cruiser-cribbed steering wheel for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee’s three-spoke unit. Steering wheel radio controls will now be available on certain models as the Wrangler continues its push upmarket. Reportedly, the new Wrangler also gets bigger sunvisors.

Color-matched hardtop

After years of rumors about a color-matched multi-piece hard top, Jeep will apparently finally offer the highly-demanded accessory from the factory for the 2011 model year.

The Toledo Blade received leaked camera phone images of a pair of 2011 Jeep Wranglers – one two-door and one four-door Wrangler Unlimited – hanging out at the automaker’s Toledo, Ohio, assembly plant. Previously, Jeep offered its removable hard tops only in black, tan and white.

Although the photos aren’t of the best quality, they do clearly show a silver Wrangler Sahara Unlimited and a white short wheelbase Wrangler Sahara parked inside the factory during what appears to be an assembly training or marketing exercise. On the silver Wrangler, the factory-applied shipping bar code is visible on the Jeep’s windshield.

Jeep has hinted that the 2011 Wrangler will receive a light update for the new model year, although these photos don’t show much in the way of changes. We aren’t sure if the two Wranglers shown are export models or if they’re showing off a new front bumper arrangement. Standard North American Wranglers have a simpler front bumper that ends before the fenders. These photos clearly show an extended front bumper arrangement.

Allpar claims that the ‘11 Wranglers will see a handful of specification changes – steering wheel radio controls for the uplevel Sport B and an AC outlet and automatic headlamps for the Sahara. Newly optional on Saharas will be heated power mirrors and heated seats. The 3.8-liter V6 is expected to continue; implementation of Chrysler’s new 3.6-liter Phoenix V6 might have to wait until 2012.

No word yet whether the company’s new Mopar/Jeep off road trailers will be offered with tops to match their Wrangler tow vehicles, however.

Very nice. The Wrangler is a cool truck, even though I'd never drive or own one. Well, actually, the new Wrangler makes me want to take up off-roading...

SPIED: 2011 Jeep Wrangler Receives an Interior Makeover As Well

MONDAY, JULY 26, 2010

Following on from last week's scoop with two exterior shots (click here and here) of the upcoming 2011 model year Jeep Wrangler, courtesy of the news website 'Toledoblade', the Chrysler Group enthusiasts over at Allpar have now come into possession of some revealing images of the facelifted 4x4's interior.

The photos show a redesigned dash with a new instrument panel and center console, and possibly higher-quality materials. There's also a new three-spoke steering wheel with a thicker rim, which now houses the audio and cruise controls. Other changes include the restyled door panels, a new audio system and the generous use of aluminum trim throughout the interior for a more upscale feel. For the complete set of scoop photos, hop over to Allpar.

It's too bad the 3.8 will be there another year. The 3.6, especially if it has multi-air by then, will be a huge upgrade for the wrangler.

I wish they did something about the position of the HVAC controls. Changing switchgear at thigh level is not intuitive.
