OBAMA’S FIRST NEW CAR? A JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE

Speaking today at Chrysler’s Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, United States President Barack Obama revealed that his first new car purchase came just ten years ago: A 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The President revealed details about the purchase while speaking after a tour of the assembly plant in Detroit that builds the Grand Cherokee. He told those gathered that he was excited to purchase his first new car – his first with power windows.

Obama put about 84,000 miles on the Jeep before trading it in 2004 on a Chrysler 300C, which later gave way to a Ford Escape Hybrid. Nowadays, Obama’s transportation is, of course, somewhat more luxurious and better armored.

Obama’s former Grand Cherokee, a black Limited equipped with the 4.7-liter V8 and now showing 133,000 miles, is now owned by a Connecticut collector who acquired it for the relatively low sum of $26,437 at an auction earlier this year.

Obama reveals some details about his first new car in his speech (found below) at about 0:45.
