Ford Focus RS Confirmed for Australia, 315 Units Heading Down Under

We know what you're thinking, but isn't it better late than never? More than a year after its market launch in Europe and as production is nearing to an end, Ford today delivered the blissful news that the Focus RS is on its way to Australia in a strictly limited run.

"Customers, the motoring press, Ford enthusiasts and hot hatch fans have all been constantly asking us about Focus RS and when it might be coming to Australia, so we're very pleased and incredibly excited to be able to confirm for everyone today that it's on its way and will be here soon," Ford Australia President & CEO Marin Burela said.

Only 315 examples of the FWD hot hatch, which is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five producing 224kW (300HP) and 400Nm of peak torque, will be available in the country with first deliveries scheduled for the fourth quarter of the year. Ford Australia said the RS will be offered for sale with a Manufacturer's List Price of AU$59,990.

The Focus RS, will be available in one specification level with the buyers' choice of colors limited to Ultimate Green, Performance Blue, and Frozen White.

The car will come fitted with Recaro sports seats in partial leather trim, dual zone climate control air conditioning, rain sensing windscreen wipers, auto-dimming rear vision mirror and an eight-speaker Sony audio system with six-disc CD player and USB input facility for iPod/MP3 player integration, as standard.

Nah, it's a hatchback. Americans can't handle those. Maybe the next gen (2012?) RS will come here, though. In a sedan form w/ an automatic to suit American tastes. :)

The next gen will have an ST trim level as the normal sport mode both here and abroad with an uprate version of the 2.0 T ecoboost that will reportedly make 250 hp and 260 ftlbs (not a far cry from the 237, 250 in its other applications) and will get a combined 29 mpg and o-60 in about 5.5 seconds with either the dual clutch automatic of 6 speed manual. There is reports that an RS will be offered above it with electicially powered rear wheels giving it rear wheel drive but details are sketchy about it.

I'm a mustang fan (rear drive and v8s) but if I want to get a second car and make my mustang a date/weekend/track car a silver focus ST would be my new ride.
