Chrysler Group posts 5% sales gain, keeping pace with industry

Chrysler Group sales were up 5% to 93,313 cars and truck in July, matching the overall industry pace, and year-to-date sales are up 11%. Its best-sellers were the Ram pickup (20,138, up 14%),the Jeep Wrangler (10,043, UP 120%) and the Chrysler Town & Country minivan (8,083, UP 18%). It was a fourth consecutive month of sales increases for Chrysler Group, now run by Fiat.

The Chrysler brand was the decliner for the company, down 11%. The slide was driven largely by a 70% drop from last July in sales of the now-discontinued PT Cruiser.

Dodge brand sales were flat with last July, but sales of the Challenger coupe were up 317%, which Chrysler credited in part to its return to NASCAR racing July 2.

Sales for the Ram truck brand were up 11%.

Jeep brand vehicle sales were up 19% for the month. With the all-new Grand Cherokee still just coming into dealer showrooms, Grand Cherokee sales were up 54% over last July.
