Jaguar XJ75 Platinum Sports Concept Celebrates [Again] firm's 75th Anniversary at Pebble Beach

SATURDAY, AUGUST 14, 2010

It's become somewhat common knowledge at this point that Jaguar is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, but just in case the limited edition XKR175 Coupe doesn't spread the word at this weekend's Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance in California, Jaguar also readied the XJ75 Platinum concept.

The concept study is based on the long-wheelbase XJ with power derived from a completely stock 5.0-liter Supercharged direct-injection V8 with 470HP and 424 lb.-ft of torque.

While the engine and suspension parts are left unchanged, the design concept gets a revised exterior and interior. The outside of the car is dominated by a white and black contrast theme, as well as a body kit with a ground-hugging front spoiler, and rear and side sills.

Jaguar's design team also refinished the chrome trim elements of the XJ to a dark chrome and gloss black shade, and added bespoke 22-inch alloy wheels in a brushed contrast finish.

The same color theme continues inside with gloss pearlescent white air vents, veneers and diamond stitch suede inserts to the seats and headliner. Additional suede and leather accents used throughout the interior, and a bespoke clock developed and designed in partnership with the Bremont Watch Company, complete the styling upgrades.

"The new Jaguar XJ Platinum Concept celebrates Jaguar's 75th Anniversary, and highlights the uniqueness of the XJ, and more broadly, the increasingly personal nature of luxury cars in today's market," said Mike O'Driscoll, Managing Director of Jaguar.

THE JAGUAR XJ75 PLATINUM BOWS AT PEBBLE BEACH

By Mark Kleis

Often times anniversaries are focused on the the past, not so for Jaguar, who has decided to celebrate its 75-year anniversary with a celebration dubbed “75 Years of Looking Forward,” with the first forward-looking statement being a flashy XJ75 Platinum Concept.

Jaguar says that the XJ75 Platinum is a “one-of-a-kind” design and the first demonstration of the true customization potential found within the latest XJ straight from the factory.

To start off, Jaguar opted for its impressive 470 horsepower supercharged 5.0-liter engine found in the 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged model for its literal motivation. The exterior design is marked by a white and black contrasting theme which the automaker says was intended to draw parallels to the metal from which the model received its name.

The body kit includes a lowered front fascia – with matching side skirts and rear fascia for a much more aggressive and street-performance minded style – all of which sits atop black 22-inch wheels with a brushed contrast finish. To finish the dramatic effect on the exterior, Jaguar opted for a unique Satin Matte Pearlescent White paint accented by dark chrome or gloss black accent pieces – ditching the traditional chrome.

Jaguar put as much effort into the interior as the exterior of the vehicle, continuing the contrast theme with gloss pearlescent white air vents, veneers and diamond stitch suede inserts for the seats and headliner, all set against the backdrop of a full Jet Softgrain leather interior. The suede and leather accents are applied throughout the interior to give the XJ75 an even more luxurious look and feel than the standard XJ.

No details were left untouched for the XJ75 Platinum Concept, as the center console houses a one-of-a-kind clock developed and designed in partnership with the Bremont Watch Company – an independent British company that creates mechanical watches which are hand assembled in Switzerland.

To round out the sensory experiences found within the XJ75 Platinum, Jaguar added a 1,200-watt Bowers and Wilkins surround sound audio system complete with an outrageous 20 speakers and 15 channels of audio signal.
