Who said the Ford 500 had to be boring?

Recommended Posts

Ford Five Hundred GT...with the Ford GT version of the 5.4L V8. Built by engineering students at a community college, the engine is mounted in the rear seat area and it has been converted to RWD with body panels from an F-150 flareside. Now, if only Ford could build a RWD V8 Five Hundred or Crown Vic replacement...

So.. if the engine is in the rear seat.. what's under the hood? :P

Actually, I think it's pretty cool but then as Nos put it, it's still boring looking. Any idea what autoshow those pics were taken at?

Still looking for signs of "F-150 Flareside" in the bodywork...

The fact that this car was built (excellent job by those students, by the way) proves that the 500 desperately needed help.

Things I like about the 500:

sheer size

seating height

general packaging for passengers

huge trunk

GM didn't build it

All this is eclipsed by its tiny engine, odd use of retro looking interior plastics (here we go again), and derivative, blah styling.

The RWD 427 Concept, productionized, with their new 3.5 as a base engine, would have been a homerun out of the park. When I think of this, it makes me want to :banghead: the same way GM makes me feel sometimes.

damn, that's who stole my 500!

that thing looks like its ready to RALLY

blu, all your reasons why you like it is why I got one and its all pleasing.

my engine is breaking in, the tranny is more the accelration handicap rather than the engine. still I'd like another 50 hp. In no way would it compare to THIS though. I gotta get these guys' number.......
