Chevrolet Camaro gets sales revenge on Ford Mustang

08:44 AM

In July, Ford Mustang outsold archrival Chevrolet Camaro by a mere three cars. As we close the book on August, it was no contest: Camaro squashed Mustang, 6,321 to 5,570.

"Possibly more significant is calendar year to date, with 60,000 Camaro sales to 53,000 Mustang sales," says spokesman Monte Doran. "Car shoppers continue to be excited about the Camaro, which has now been on the market over a year. As a result, Camaro has taken the lead in the segment with virtually no incentives," he says, although he is quick to add, it is eligible for the GM military discount. We doubt anyone will quibble with that extra.

Mustang has two hot new engines for 2011 that should be giving it an edge in the marketplace. But Camaro isn't standing still. " Camaro is currently only available as a coupe. We expect sales to grow when the convertible is introduced early next year," Doran says.
