RetroAd: Racer Jackie Stewart pitches Ford Tempo

12:33 PM

Back in the 1980s, Ford couldn't get enough of Jackie Stewart. The Grand Prix champion with the thick accent was known for his unblemished reviews of Ford's latest cars, much to the consternation of Ford brass who would have preferred to have glossed over the car's shortcomings at the time.

We're not quite sure what the Flying Scot really thought of the Ford Tempo. Our bet is that he wasn't entirely thrilled, but he sucked it up for this ad he did in the early 1980s. The Tempo was a terrible car, it just wasn't a particularly good one. But within a few years Ford didn't care. The SUV revolution -- with its high profits and insulation from Japanese competition -- had come. Cars like the Tempo didn't matter much anymore.
