Bentley to add 'entry-level' model

Nobody's immune to a global recession, so Bentley will add a V8-powered "entry-level" model to the midlife update for its Continental GT luxury performance coupe.

The car also gets lovely new sheet metal and a more powerful version of its existing 6.0-liter, 12-cylinder engine.

Bentley hasn't revealed output figures for the 4.0-liter V8, which is to go on sale next year. However, the 12-cylinder engine gets a boost to 567 horsepower, plus the ability to run on E85 biofuel.

The Continental GT also boasts a flowing new trunk lid and fenders courtesy of a technology that heats aluminum to 930 degrees Fahrenheit and uses pressurized air to form shapes that still look molten.

The Continental GT also gets a new interior and infotainment systems.

While the V8 is Bentley's response to the weak economy, the Continental GT remains a budget-buster.

Expect the 12-cylinder's base price to rise from $182,000 now to above $200,000 when the new model arrives next year.
