The People have Spoken: Audi TT RS Coming to America, Sales Start Next Year

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2010

To the surprise of few, after more than 11,500 fans in the USA expressed their interest for the spicy hot TT RS in a survey on Facebook in just over a month, Audi announced today that it is bringing the five-cylinder coupe to the U.S. market by the third quarter of 2011. Only the coupe version of the TT RS will make its way on this side of the pond with pricing and standard features to be announced closer to the launch date.

"With performance and agility rooted in Audi motorsports success, the TT RS is truly an emotional sports car," said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America in a prepared statement. "That emotion became abundantly clear as we explored interest across the country."

Even though the press release from Audi of America makes word three times of the same 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder engine producing "360-horsepower" and 332 lb-ft of torque found on the European-spec model, we all know that the TT RS's five-pot pot delivers 340HP (the torque figure is correct).

The 2.5T engine will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission and quattro all-wheel drive system allowing the TT RS to complete the a 0 to 62 mph - 100km/h (and not 0-60mph as wrongfully mentioned in the press release) sprint in 4.6 seconds.

2012 Audi TT RS Confirmed For U.S., Late 2011 Arrival

By Nelson Ireson

Editor

September 14th, 2010

The hottest of Audi's TT lineup will finally be making its way to America, due here in the third quarter of 2011. The credit is due in part to a Facebook petition called "Bring it to the U.S." which saw 11,500 signatures over the course of a month.

If you're not up to speed on the TT-RS, you ought to be. The 360-horsepower turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder variant of the TT delivers 4.6-second 0-60 mph times in the TT's svelte package thanks in part to its quattro all-wheel drive. The mid-mounted Engine is so good it won the International Engine of the Year award in its category this year.

For those fearing a two-pedal dual-clutch solution, relax: the TT RS gets a traditional six-speed manual gearbox.

Unlike Europe, where a convertible version of the TT RS is available, we Americans will have to make do with the tin-top only. Pricing and other details for the TT RS's American debut remain undisclosed, but you can be sure we'll bring you the latest as it breaks.

2010 AUDI TT RS COMING TO AMERICA Q3 2011

TT RS ROADSTERTT RS COUPETT RS ROADSTER

By Mark Kleis

When Audi officially uncovered its 2010 TT RS range-topper at the Geneva Motor Show in March of this year the major caveat was that it wouldn't be coming to U.S. soil.

Not anymore! Following a Facebook campaign to gauge interest for the TT RS in America - which generated over 11,500 requests - Audi has officially decided that Americans too deserve a hopped up TT. The TT RS will first go on sale during the third quarter of next year.

"With performance and agility rooted in Audi motorsports success, the TT RS is truly an emotional sports car," explained Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. "That emotion became abundantly clear as we explored interest across the country."

Now, like Leftlane predicted for the RS5, Audi has one more model to help reach its goal of selling 200,000 units per year in the U.S.

What we know about the TT RS

The TT RS is an even more performance-oriented variant than the recently unveiled TTS. It will be sold in Coupe and Roadster variants, both of which have virtually identical specs under the hood, using a turbocharged 2.5-liter in-line five-cylinder motor, Audi's first five-cylinder engine in ten years. Despite its modest displacement, the five-cylinder mill will crank out 340 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque, which should translate into a sub-5 second run to 60 mph.

All this grunt will be channeled through Audi's permanent all-wheel-drive quattro system and a six-speed manual gearbox, though the DSG dual-clutch system will also be available as an option. Expect sporty styling with unique large-diameter wheels, alloy-effect door mirrors, aggressive bumpers, RS badges on the brakes and sill extensions. Volkswagen's new 280bhp 3.6-liter V6 petrol engine, lined up for a hot version of the Passat CC, is expected to be released at the same time to replace the 3.2-litre V6 currently powering the range-topping standard TT.

Although the TT RS will be the highest-performing TT ever, expect the German two-door — which will be available as a coupe and roadster — to return 24 mpg.

Although the exterior of the RS appears similar to the S model, there are a few subtle changes. The TT-RS forgoes the S' fog lights in order to accommodate larger air intakes, allowing for better airflow to the engine. In addition, the RS also sports bigger wheels and brakes. Out back are a set of oval exhaust outlets, a signature design cue for Audi's performance range of vehicles.

So if you would like the opportunity to purchase a TT RS, make sure to visit Audi's Facebook petition and give them the thumbs up.

Audi TT RS headed to America after Facebook petition success

Audi has just announced that it will begin importing the hottest version of its little sports car, the TT-RS, in the third quarter of next year.

The product move comes after Audi whipped up a Facebook petition page that gathered in excess of 11,500 signatures in just a month's time.

The move to import the 360-horsepower Porsche Boxster and Mercedes-Benz SLK AMG-fighter isn't much of a surprise – after all, Audi has been courting the media with test drives for months, and an Audi executive at last week's launch of the A7 Sportback in Sardinia hinted that a decision was to be revealed in a few days.

No word yet on what pricing or the options list will look like, but only the hard-hatted coupe will make it to these shores – the Roadster will remain forbidden fruit.

HERNDON, Va., Sep 14, 2010 - The hopes of American sports car enthusiasts will be realized. Audi announced today that it is bringing the 360-horsepower Audi TT RS coupe to the U.S. market by the third quarter of 2011.

The introduction of the Audi TT RS to the U.S. market has been under consideration for several months. To gauge consumer passion for the high-performance car, Audi launched an innovative survey on its Facebook tab. After more than 11,500 fans expressed their enthusiasm for the Audi TT RS in just one month, and the American automotive media praised its dynamics, Audi executives concluded the car's time had come.

"With performance and agility rooted in Audi motorsports success, the TT RS is truly an emotional sports car," explained Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. "That emotion became abundantly clear as we explored interest across the country."

Audi has not yet determined pricing for the Audi TT RS and will continue to define features and options available to U.S. consumers. Only the coupe version of the TT RS will be available in the U.S.

The Audi TT RS headed for America will share key performance attributes of the models sold in Europe and elsewhere. The car will come with the same, award-winning 2.5-liter TFSI, five-cylinder engine that generates 360 horsepower. The turbocharged engine also produces an impressive 332 lb-ft of torque. It was developed exclusively for the Audi TT RS and won International Engine of the Year honors this summer in judging for its category by 71 automotive journalists. The 2.5T engine will be paired with a six-speed manual transmission and quattro® all-wheel drive to achieve a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. The lightweight body featuring Audi Space Frame ASF® aluminum construction produces a low drag coefficient of 0.32.
