2011 Shelby GT500 Super Snake: Now With 800 HP

2011 Shelby GT500 Super Snake: Now With 800 HP

The 2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake made a slightly outrageous 750 hp. For 2011, Shelby's offering an 800-hp option. C'mon, when there's an 800-hp option is there really any option at all? You gotta check that box.

Most of the 2011 Shelby GT500 upgrades are what they offered last year, including an upgraded supercharger kit, stronger brakes, short-throw shifter, a trunk full of Ford Racing suspension parts. They're not yet saying how they're getting from 750-to-800 hp, nor are they saying how much more it'll be than the $30K 750-hp version.

But they did say they're getting new anthracite wheels, white stripes and side scoops. So that's something.

Boasting up to 800 horsepower, the 2011 Shelby GT500 Super Snake package offers a healthy increase in power over Ford's standard Shelby GT500.

Available as a post-title package assembled either at Shelby American's Las Vegas assembly plant or at one of several Shelby-backed "Mod Shops," the Super Snake starts life as a standard 2011 Ford Shelby GT500.

Shelby's crew adds a Ford Racing handling pack, which includes dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, unique stabilizer bars and a front strut tower brace.

From there, a choice of three supercharger kits can pump power up to 800 horsepower on standard pump gas. A Shelby/Ford Racing supercharger increases power to 660 horsepower, a healthy increase over the standard GT500's 550 ponies. For those with even more of a thirst for power, a Shelby/Ford Racing or Shelby/Kenne Belle supercharger can be added, along with an upgraded driveshaft and a billet twin 75mm throttle body for a total of 750 horsepower - identical to last year's top-level Shelby GT500 Super Snake.

The 750 horsepower package adds $30,245 to the price of a factory GT500.

But the biggest news for 2011 is the optional Shelby/Kenne Bell 800 horsepower tuning. Shelby hasn't released pricing for its highest performance Mustang-based machine.

All models also gain a Borla exhaust, 20-inch Alcoa/Shelby wheels in a choice of two shades, a short-throw six-speed manual transmission, Baer forged brakes with six-piston calipers and cross-drilled and vented rotors, custom styling touches including brake cooling ducts and Shelby badging throughout. All Super Snakes will be listed in the Shelby registry and they're assigned a unique Shelby serial number.

Just 1,000 will be made available.

Shelby announces 2011 GT500 Super Snake with up to 800 horsepower

by Drew Phillips (RSS feed) on Sep 14th 2010 at 1:29PM

When we tested the 750 horsepower 2010 Shelby GT500 Super Snake, our man Jonathon Ramsey declared it the "new king" of Mustangs. Surprisingly, he found that the suspension was able to – barely – keep up with the engine, but we figured that the Super Snake had just about all the power a street-driven Mustang could handle. We thought wrong, at least according to Shelby.

Ol' Carroll has upped the ante in the horsepower wars once again by offering up to 800 horsepower in the newly-released 2011 version of the Super Snake. Of course, there are more sane options including 660 horsepower and 750 horsepower variants, but the 800 horsepower version will undoubtedly be the must-have for the guy (or girl) who needs the biggest and baddest 'Stang on the block. Also new for 2011 are the optional anthracite wheels, white stripes and new side scoops. The Super Snake package starts at $30,245 (just $250 less than the cost of a brand new 2011 Mustang GT) and can be built at Shelby's Las Vegas facility or at any of their official Mod Shops around the country. Hit the jump for complete specs for the 2011 Super Snake package and more details.

Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. (CSBI:PK), will offer a Super Snake post title package for the 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 with new styling cues and an optional 800 horsepower tuned engine. Only 1,000 total Super Snake packages for the 2011 model year car will be built at the Shelby American facility in Las Vegas or one of the official Shelby Mod Shops, beginning in September of this year.

"Ford Motor Company did a marvelous job making the 2011 model year GT500 lighter and more powerful," said John Luft, president of Shelby American. "Our team applied its experience building Super Snakes over the past several years to offer a package that dramatically increases the new car's capabilities. And with the visual changes we've made, it will be a definite stand out on the road or track."

Just like the 2011 Shelby GT350, born on the proving grounds of the drag strip and road course at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Shelby American worked with companies like Ford Racing to create an even more aggressive suspension and engine package for the 2011 Super Snake.

"We extensively tested our mods for the 2011 model car before we decided the package was ready for the public," added Gary Davis, vice president of production and R&D at Shelby American. "For those who want more performance than the stock GT500 offers, the Super Snake will definitely meet their expectations."

For the 2011 model year, more power, a new anthracite wheel, white stripes and new side scoops are optional.

"We've only offered black stripes and chrome wheels on the Super Snake since we introduced the package a couple of years ago," added Davis. "With the serious advancements made to the 2011 model year, it was time to differentiate it from the previous generation car. So we added an 800 horsepower tune, optional wheel, side scoop and stripes to make it easy to spot the new Shelby Super Snake."

The 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 Super Snake post title package includes:

• Ford Racing handling pack including dynamic adjustable dampers, lowering springs, tuned stabilizer bars, and front strut tower brace

• 6-speed manual transmission with 3.73:1 rear axle ratio

• Shelby/Ford Racing supercharger upgrade producing over 660 HP and 590 ft.-lbs. of torque

• Either a Shelby/Ford Racing or Shelby/Kenne Bell supercharger kit producing 750 HP with upgraded drive shaft, billet twin 75mm throttle body and exclusive badges

• Optional Shelby/Kenne Bell 800 horsepower tune on pump gas

• Borla exhaust system

• An optional Shelby / Eibach handling pack is also available

• Shelby-designed Alcoa 20-inch wheels in durabright or anthracite

• Short-throw shifter

• Forged Shelby / Baer brakes with 6 piston calipers and cross drilled / vented rotors

• Front brake cooling ducts and behind the door side scoops

• Unique fiberglass hood featuring classic Shelby design and pins

• Shelby signature Super Snake stripes in either matte black or matte white

• "Shelby" lettering across the rear deck lid

• "Super Snake" vehicle badges and official Shelby CSM interior plate

• Optional two tone leather interior

• Shelby signature embroidered headrests, floor mats and other Shelby designed components

The price of the 750 HP package is $30,245 including installation but not the car. Each vehicle will be listed in the official Shelby registry. Complete Super Snake packages will only be available through Shelby American and its mod shops. Customers interested in a Shelby GT500 Super Snake should call (702) 942-7325 or log onto www.shelbyamerican.com.

Shelby Releases 800-Horsepower Super Snake on the Unsuspecting Public

Shelby American, the company responsible for creating modern "Shelby" Mustangs (except for Ford's own GT500), has released details about its Super Snake package for the 2011 Mustang GT500. No surprise there, except that the "post title" package can be pushed up to 800 horsepower (no torque figures have been released for that one, yet). Interested? Get in line, because only 1,000 will be built for 2011.

The base 2011 Super Snake package gets people a 660-horsepower / 590 lb-ft supercharged V8, a Ford Racing suspension kit, Borla exhaust system, new Shelby-designed Alcoa rims, and more (check out the rest below, because the list is just your standard bolt-ons and my fingers grow weary).

Package options include a supercharger upgrade to Shelby / Ford Racing or Shelby / Kenne Bell supercharger - anything to tack "Shelby" onto a part - that puts out 750 horsepower and throws in a new driveshaft, throttle body, and badges for good measure; or, if you're really in the mood to spend some cash, you can opt for that 800-pony package. Shelby American says that its Super Snake packages will only be available from the company or one of its "mod shops".

Company president John Luft says, "Ford Motor Company did a marvelous job making the 2011 model year GT500 lighter and more powerful. Our team applied its experience building Super Snakes over the past several years to offer a package that dramatically increases the new car's capabilities. And with the visual changes we've made, it will be a definite stand out on the road or track."

To give you an idea of pricing, the 750-horse package will run $30,245 including installation. You know, don't worry about getting in that line I mentioned earlier; if the price adds that kind of cash to the $49,500 price of a base...BASE...GT500, just go get yourself a Viper. Hell, at least you'll be driving one hell of a cool snake-themed sports car. That, and your neighbor's kid won't have a V6 version of the same thing.
