SEMA Preview: ARK Performance Hyundai Genesis Coupe

by Damon Lavrinc (RSS feed) on Sep 23rd 2010 at 3:29PM

With the Genesis Coupe 3.8 finally getting its own R-Spec model, it was just a matter of time before Hyundai started partnering with tuners to boost the performance of its V6-powered aftermarket-friendly coupe.

ARK Performance, one of Korea's leading tuners, will be upgrading nearly every component of its Track Time Attack Genesis Coupe for this year's SEMA show, boosting the output of the 3.8-liter V6 from 306 horsepower to 450+ ponies through the help of new internals, an APG supercharger and a host of breathing mods.

Brembo brakes with Endless pads and DBA drilled and slotted rotors hide behind lightweight Volk TE37 SLs, with ARK's full suspension system (coilovers, sway bars and front strut bar) working together with a range of Cusco parts.

In addition to the custom front and rear bumpers, hood, side skirts, rear diffuser and fenders, ARK will be equipping the inside with Bride seats, a six-point cage and Sparco steering wheel, along with the defacto sound system and Apple iPad integration.

For the full list of mods and a little bit of background on ARK, hit the jump for the release, and check out the preliminary sketches in the gallery below.

SEMA PREVIEW: HYUNDAI ARK TRACK TIME ATTACK GENESIS COUPE 3.8L

By Drew Johnson

While the automotive world is gearing up for next week’s Paris Motor Show, Hyundai has rolled out its first SEMA-bound creation. Based on the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, the SEMA Show car was co-developed with ARK Performance Inc.

Dubbed the ARK Track Time Attack Genesis Coupe 3.8L, the modified two-door will make its world debut later this year at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Although most of SEMA’s cars are one off customs, the ARK car will actually be a rolling display for performance parts that will be available to enthusiasts.

"At ARK Performance we strive to produce superior aftermarket products for vehicles enthusiasts love to tune, and our performance parts for the Genesis Coupe accomplish just that," said Ted Lee, owner, ARK Performance Inc. "The Hyundai Genesis Coupe is the ideal car for enthusiasts with its strong performance characteristics and dynamic design. The ARK Track Time Attack Genesis Coupe SEMA car demonstrates the ways tuners can improve the performance of their own Genesis Coupe."

The show car will be equipped with pretty much every performance accessory ARK will offer, including a supercharger –which boosts power to 450 horsepower – a performance exhaust system, Brembo brakes, a sports suspension and even a number of interior upgrades.

Prices for the ARK performance upgrades have yet to be released, but check back for more information closer to the start of the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

The 2010 SEMA show comes to Las Vegas at the end of October, but Hyundai's getting ahead of the aftermarket action by releasing these sketches of its Genesis Coupe, as re-envisioned by ARK Performance of South Korea.

ARK's Genesis kit takes the basic 306-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 found in the Coupe and drills it out to 450 horsepower through Mahle pistons, Brian Crower connecting rods, an APG supercharger with intercooling, and ARK dual exhausts and a high-flow intake manifold.

ARK anti-roll bars and new control arms will be fitted to the SEMA car. Brembo brakes with stainless lines are in the concept-car plan, too, as is a Clutchmaster Stage 4 kit, Toyo tires and superlight VOLK wheels.

Exterior trim will include front and rear dams, new fenders and a wing from ARK. Inside the Genesis Coupe, SEMA showgoes will see an iPad mounted in a custom integration kit; an Infinity sound system; racing harnesses; a Sparco steering wheel; and and Bride Zeta 3 "hyper-red" seats.

Genesis Coupe product manager Mike Deitz says the ARK parts are the next step in moving Hyundai's own 3.8 R-Spec coupe into the performance ether of Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers. They're "what SEMA is all about," he says in a release.

The paint scheme for the SEMA concept will be the handiwork of Hyundai's own designers, working from their campus in Irvine, Calif., with graphics by JsDesigns.
