2011 JEEP WRANGLER GETS NEW INTERIOR [LIVE IMAGE UPDATE]

About a month ago, Jeep let loose a series of images of its 2011 Jeep Wrangler's revised interior, but we had to wait until yesterday to see the iconic 4x4's new duds in person at the State Fair of Texas' auto show.

Despite early rumors indicating the contrary, the automaker's 3.6-liter Phoenix V6, introduced earlier this year in the Grand Cherokee, won't make it to the Wrangler - yet. Instead, the Jeep's powertrain stands put for 2011.

The same can't be said for its interior. An all-new instrument panel, a new steering wheel, a new locking center console and revised door panels round out the major changes. The new dashboard features improved ergonomics and better quality materials throughout. It retains most of the outgoing model's basic layout - a high-mounted radio, centrally-located window controls and rotary climate control knobs, but the dashboard-mounted passenger grab handle now features a "Jeep Since 1941" inlay.

Nearly every material has been upgraded, and while none are genuinely luxurious, all feature low-sheen surfaces covered in a soft-feeling outer layer. The interior, Jeep says, is still designed to withstand abuse - but it's much more luxurious-looking than before.

The steering wheel - identical to the one unveiled in the Jeep Grand Cherokee - features audio, cruise control and Bluetooth switches, as well as a new three-spoke design. Previously, the Wrangler used a four-spoke wheel taken from the now-departed PT Cruiser.

The interior also benefits from improved sound deadening materials for both standard Wrangler and four-door Wrangler Unlimited models.

A handful of new options show up - in addition to available heated leather seats, Wranglers now offer power-adjustable exterior mirrors.

Outside, aside from several new colors - Detonator Yellow, Deep Cherry Red, Sahara Tan, Cosmos Blue and Bright White - Sahara models feature a new color-coordinated hardtop.

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler should be arriving in dealers now.
